What you will be doing

As a Hands-on Tech Lead, your mission is to be the primary technical architect and implementer for cutting-edge digital products, bridging Berlin Bytes' engineering prowess with Kambria's human-centric AI transformation insights. You will drive the entire software development lifecycle, from deeply understanding client needs and defining technical strategies, to hands-on coding and guiding solutions through rapid prototyping and market validation. This role demands end-to-end technical ownership with significant autonomy, ensuring solutions are robust, scalable, and directly deliver measurable impact.

Hands-on Building: Lead the technical design and contribute significant direct code to cutting-edge, user-centric digital solutions and enterprise applications. You'll translate complex business challenges into elegant technical architectures and build out products from the ground up, often integrating AI components.
End-to-End Technical Ownership: Take full responsibility for technical decisions, system architecture, and implementation quality. You will guide projects from initial concept through design, development, deployment, and ongoing iteration with minimal oversight.
Client Collaboration & Technical Strategy: Work directly with clients to understand their needs, define technical requirements, and present solution approaches. You'll bridge business challenges with technical feasibility.
Small Team Enablement: Direct a small, agile team (2-3 engineers) focused on rapid prototyping and market validation of new product concepts. You will provide practical technical mentorship and unblock challenges, ensuring efficient delivery and learning cycles.
Engineering Excellence & Code Quality: Lead by example in contributing high-quality, maintainable code. Take full ownership of code quality, technical design patterns, and documentation across the codebase.
Pragmatic Technology Exploration: Continuously research, evaluate, and prototype with emerging technologies, including advancements in AI, to creatively address client challenges and unlock new possibilities in digital transformation.
Collaborative Technical Environment: Actively share deep technical knowledge and contribute to solution discussions across Berlin Bytes and Kambria teams, fostering an environment of continuous learning and technical problem-solving.
Process & Tooling Improvement: Identify and implement improvements to our development workflows, tools, and processes to enhance efficiency and accelerate the delivery of impactful digital and AI solutions.

Technical Autonomy & Problem Solving: Proven ability to take full technical ownership of projects, independently identify and solve complex engineering challenges, and drive solutions from ideation to production deployment. You thrive on hands-on coding and pragmatic application of new technologies.
Collaborative & Client-Facing Communication: Proven ability to work effectively and communicate complex technical concepts within cross-functional teams and directly with clients, fostering an environment of technical excellence and shared understanding.
Programming Mastery: Expertise in at least one widely-adopted programming language (e.g., Typescript, Golang, Rust, Python, C#, C/C++, Java), including proficiency in its type system and comprehensive knowledge of associated tooling, such as build tools, package management, testing, and linters, for building robust enterprise solutions.
API Design for Scalability: A track record of designing and building high-performance, scalable, and secure APIs using well-known frameworks (e.g., Express, Nest, Gin, Rocket, Flask, Django, .NET, Spring, etc.).
Security Proficiency: A strong understanding of authentication systems, common security practices, and familiarity with open standards (e.g., OIDC) crucial for enterprise-grade digital solutions.
Frontend Expertise: Real-world experience with at least one JavaScript/TypeScript frontend framework (e.g., React, Svelte, Angular, Vue, etc.) and a deep understanding of common browser APIs to build intuitive user experiences for complex applications.
Database Mastery: Proficiency in data modeling for both relational and NoSQL databases, including an understanding of how data structures support advanced analytics and potential AI applications.‍
Containerization & Orchestration: Hands-on experience with Docker and a comprehensive understanding of the container ecosystem, including Kubernetes, Helm, and related technologies, essential for deploying scalable digital platforms.‍
Language Skills: Proficiency in both German and English (our clients are in DACH region mainly).

Selected Nice-to-Have’s

Cloud Architecture & DevOps: Extensive DevOps experience, including building robust CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure as Code (e.g., Terraform, CDK), with hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, GCP) in production environments.
AI/ML Integration Experience: Direct experience with AI/ML concepts, frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch), or successfully integrating AI services/APIs (e.g., NLP, computer vision) into production-ready applications.
Mobile: Experience in mobile app development (Flutter, Kotlin, Swift) to extend digital solutions to mobile platforms.
